Fox News tries to link Aurora shooting to video games

In the continuing attempt to prove that video games are the source of all violence and evil in the world, Fox News are linking the Aurora, Colorado, shootings to World of Warcraft.

The shooter, James Holmes, was apprehended after opening fire in a cinema during the screening of the Dark Knight Rises.

In a report on the court documents from the event, Fox News makes a special mention that World of Warcraft was a game that Holmes “frequently” played.

They also link Holmes to Dr. Lynne Fenton, a psychiatrist who treated James and once presented a talk called “World of Warcraft: The Use of Archetypes in Psychotherapy”.

Dr. Lynne Fenton was the recipient of a notebook in which James wrote down his plans of the shooting, although the notebook went undelivered. It was only found after the shooting.

It’s also noted that Dr. Fenton has encountered some trouble with the Colorado Medical Board in the past, for prescribing herself Xanax, for prescribing Ambien and Claritin for her husband, and for prescribing painkillers for an unnamed employee who suffered from chronic headaches.

One of Holmes’ classmates also chimed in on James’ gaming tendencies: “James was obsessed with computer games and was always playing role-playing games. I can’t remember which one but it was something like World of Warcraft, one of those where you compete against people on the internet.”

Fox trying to allude that video games had something to do with Holmes’ plans is a bit of a stretch, to say the least.

Holmes was formally charged with 24 counts of murder, 116 counts of attempted murder, one count of possession of explosives, and one count of a crime of violence.
