Bobby Kotick still keen on World of Warcraft movie

4 August 2012

While the World of Warcraft movie may be struggling to get off the ground in the face of some major setbacks, Activision head Bobby Kotick is still committed to seeing it through.

Last month Sam Raimi confirmed that he was stepping down as director for the movie, choosing instead to work on Oz: The Great and Powerful.

In an interview with Variety, Kotick said that the World of Warcraft movie is “important to Blizzard, it’s important to me.”

Charles Leavitt, the man who wrote the script for Blood Diamond, has been brought in and written a new World of Warcraft screenplay. It’s said that production company Legendary is a fan of Leavitt’s story, and may be willing to fund the project.

Blizzard is apparently “very excited about having a World of Warcraft film,” according to Kotick, who said they’ve been “very careful and thoughtful about the development process.”
