Blizzard’s peons have flipped a big green “GO” switch somewhere at HQ, and the free-to-play Diablo III Starter Edition is now live, loud, and looty for eeeeeeeeeveeeeeeryboooooody!
The limited version of the game has a level cap of 13, and includes the entire first act up to the Skeleton King finale. It was previously available only to those people who had official guest passes and (for a short time, anyway) buyers waiting on credit card authentication.
According to the announcement stuff on Battle.net, you can get your grind on in three ways:
- Log in to your existing Battle.net account at http://www.battle.net, and sign up for the Diablo III Starter Edition through the “Your Game Accounts” section.
- Create a new Battle.net account here, and the Diablo III Starter Edition license will be added to your account automatically.
- Grab the Diablo III game disc from a friend, install the game, and then log in with your Battle.net account. The Diablo III Starter Edition will be added to your account automatically.
There’s a FAQ to answer all those big questions, but the important bit is that if you decide to upgrade to the full game later, all your progress will carry over.
