Surprisingly, the Uncharted movie project hasn’t had the easiest run in Hollywood. Multiple directors, cast and crew have consistently bailed out of the big screen adaptation, and now there’s been another speed-bump.
Director Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist) was attached to direct the film, but now the American filmmaker has bowed out from the director’s chair.
Burger isn’t the first director to be attached and then part ways with the project, as David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) was originally in line to direct before stepping down from the movie.
Russell’s ideal cast for Uncharted included Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake, and Robert DeNiro as Sully, although the gaming community weren’t too happy.
On the plus side, two high-profile script writers have come on-board to rewrite the script. Marianne and Cormac Wibberly (National Treasure) have been recruited to pen the new screenplay and will hopefully inject some life into the project.
