Best broadband connections in South Africa revealed

28 August 2012

MyBroadband conducted its latest broadband survey recently (August 2012), which was completed by 16,432 people, revealing that Telkom’s ADSL services remain the top rated fixed broadband connections in South Africa.

The survey asked broadband users to rate various components of their broadband connections, including reliability, download speed, upload speed, latency, value for money, and overall satisfaction.

Telkom’s 10Mbps, 1Mbps and 4Mbps ADSL connections were rated as the top broadband connections, followed by Telkom’s WiMax service and Neotel’s NeoFlex offerings.

It is interesting to note that Neotel’s WiMax service, which is aimed at the business market and hence not included in this article, received a higher average rating (7.21) than all other broadband services.

The ratings further revealed that Telkom’s 384kbps ADSL service is not considered adequate to consumers any longer. Good news for these subscribers is that Telkom is set to upgrade these speeds to 1Mbps starting in October.

The following table provides an overview of the ratings received by the various consumer broadband connections available in South Africa.
