Michael Clarke Duncan passes away at 54

4 September 2012

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan died Monday morning after suffering complications from a heart attack.

The 54-year old held one of the most recognisable voices in the industry, and was known for his roles in Armageddon, The Whole Nine Yards, Brother Bear, Planet of the Apes, Sin City, Daredevil, and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, amongst others.

Duncan was hospitalised for a heart-attack he suffered in July; unfortunately he did not recover as expected and remained at the Los Angeles hospital until his death.

Duncan originally started out in Hollywood as a bodyguard to big-name stars, such as Will Smith and Jamie Foxx.

He landed his first significant Hollywood role as Bear in 1998’s sci-fi blockbuster Armageddon, but Duncan is best remembered for his role in the 1999 drama The Green Mile, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe nomination.

Duncan also spent his fair-share of time in the recording booth, putting his deep and rich voice to good use for video games, playing Atlas in God of War II, Benjamin King in Saints Row 2, Blackmore in The Suffering: Ties That Bind, and Hawk in Soldier of Fortune.
