Since Grand Theft Auto V was announced in November last year, the rumour mill has been predictably churning out any number of false claims, many around potential release dates.
The latest internet buzz was instigated by a supposedly leaked screenshot of a Rockstar info page which put the release date for the next instalment in the series to be released shortly before Christmas this year.
However, the image was apparently falsified to include “misleading information”.
Back in July Rockstar expressed exasperation over all the rumours, saying that the company wouldn’t be commenting on every single bit of speculation to make the internet rounds.
“There is going to be no shortage of non-stop hoaxes, faked footage and screens, rampant rumours and speculation,” the company said at the time. “As a rule, we are not going to get into the game of confirming or denying each of these as they happen as there is simply too much of it. Half of them we don’t even understand.”
Readers shouldn’t hold their breath for GTA V under the tree this year.
