Wii U launch details hint at SA launch date?

Nintendo Europe’s President, Satoru Shibata, has revealed the launch details for the Nintendo Wii U console in Europe. This is important news for SA gamers, as we fall under the EMEA region, giving us a clue into the possible launch date of the console in South Africa.

Europe will be getting the Wii U on 30 November, ahead of the Japanese launch date of 8 December. European retailers will be free to set their own pricing for the console, giving us no clue on the SA price point.

Core Group, official distributor of Nintendo products in South African, has not yet confirmed any South African release date and pricing information for the Wii U.

In the US, the Wii U is confirmed to cost US$299.99 (±R2,500) for Basic package, and US$349.99 (±R2,925) for the Premium package. It is launching on 18 November in the US.

The Wii U supports SD memory cards and external USB storage to expand on the internal. Wii U game discs have a 25GB capacity.

The console uses 2GB of RAM; 1GB for games, and 1GB for system memory. This means that users will be able to surf the internet and MiiVerse without quitting their game.

No launch title pricing was given for Europe.
