Open-source controller gets a Kickstart

The folks behind the Open Pandora gaming console and the iControlPad have just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of their new iControlPad 2.

The iControlPad 2 is an open-source multi-purpose game controller. It will connect to almost anything – iOS and Android devices, Macs, PCs, Linux systems. It’s completely hackable and should result in some interesting applications.

The designers, Product 3, say that the inspiration for iControlPad 2 mostly came from user feedback, through which they improved on the original by adding a 55-key keyboard and additional rapid fire keys.

The controller’s casing is made of both metal and plastic, for more durability, and the phone cradle has been upgraded. The device is also said to have 12-14 hours of game-time on a single charge.

Product 3 says that it has working prototypes, and it’s enlisted the help of Kickstarter to raise $150,000 to start production.

Pledging $49 gets you the controller (minus shipping), with a host of other privileges for bigger pledges.
