International ADSL affected due to cable break

26 September 2012

Mweb is experiencing a partial loss of international capacity due to a cable break near Marseilles which is affecting the Seacom cable system, the internet service provider (ISP) announced today (26 September).

“We are currently operating on backup capacity, so you may be experiencing some slowness on international sites and downloads,” Mweb said in its statement.

The ISP said that lower priority traffic such as peer-to-peer downloads will be the most affected.

Mweb said that it would provide an update as soon as they have an estimated time for the repair.

Traffic graphs from another major service provider suggests that their international capacity via Seacom went offline just before 14:00 and started coming back online from 15:35.
