League of Legends players – and, by extension, the whole MOBA community* – aren’t exactly known for their nice manners, which is also the nice mannered way of putting that. Developer Riot Games is hoping to change all this, though, with the introduction of a new Honor system to promote playing well with others.
Until now, players have been able to report bad behaviour but not the other way around. With the Honor system, they’ll now also be able to acknowledge good behaviour by awarding a “thumbs up” to other players according to several categories including “Helpful”, “Friendly”, “Teamwork”, and “Honorable Opponent”.
Players will also be able to review their own Honor score to keep track of how much everybody else likes or doesn’t like them, so the whole thing is kind of like a high school toilet wall. That does seem appropriate somehow.
The system is already live, so make sure you log in to see if that mage from last night thinks you’re cute. Or helpful. But everybody knows “helpful” is just code for “you’re, like, totally hot and I’d totally go to the grade 8 dance with you, totally, like, omg“.
