iGame’s corporate league has not been kind to MyGaming so far. After failing to field a team for our first match against iGame, which resulted in a forfeit, MyGaming was determined to come back hard in our second match the following week against Dial a Nerd.
Unfortunately, the second match was also not to be, as Dial a Nerd canceled the event at the last minute. The third match the following week was equally disappointing, with MyGaming once again struggling to field a team for a match held the night before a public holiday.
Last night however marked MyGaming’s first proper entrance into the tournament, and the team did so with style defeating the team from NAG Magazine 20-4.
MyGaming fielded the following players
Tinman, Maplassie, Terak (DuncanBell), Sycogrim and Grimspoon.
The match was played using the mod ‘Promod’ on the map ‘Crossfire’. The game type played was ‘Search and Destroy’, where the attacking team must plant a bomb at one of two bomb-sites, and then defend the site until the bomb explodes. The defending team must prevent the bomb from being planted and detonated. When players are killed in Search and Destroy, they do not respawn until the following round.
Due to the fact that this was the first match that MyGaming had actually played in the competition, there were a number of early hiccups.
In the ‘Knife Round’, Grimspoon inadvertently fired at NAG players, resulting in NAG choosing to defend in the first 12 rounds.
Certain MyGaming players were unaware of the ‘ready-up’ procedure, which requires participants to press the F key to signal that they are ready to begin the match. This resulted in some embarrassing delays.
Upon arriving for the match, NAG player and Editor, Redtide joked “You guys pitched”, light heartedly mocking team MyGaming for forfeiting two of its earlier games. The jokes stopped as soon as the match began though, with MyGaming leading a coordinated attack, using smoke and flashbangs to divert NAG’s attention while they planted the bomb at site A. Maplassie adopted a sniping and covering role early on, picking off the NAG players mercilessly while Tinman and Terak planted the bomb and Grimspoon and Sycogrim provided support.
The first round was over within 30 seconds, with MyGaming killing all team NAG players just seconds after planting the bomb.
MyGaming continued to dominate, winning every one of its rounds on attack, reaching half-time with a lead of 12-0.
MyGaming continued to show good form on defense, with high kill-rates from Terak and Maplassie making it difficult for NAG to gain momentum. Grimspoon and Sycogrim gave solid performances, maintaining positive kill-death-ratios and shutting down team NAG at key choke points.
NAG picked up its game towards the end of the match, and managed to win four of the final eight rounds. It was too little too late however, and MyGaming emerged victorious with a convincing closing score of 20-4.
DuncanBell was MyGaming’s top scorer, finishing with 35 kills, 3 assists and 12 deaths, and Maplassie came in a close second with 36 kills, 1 assist and just 7 deaths. Other MyGaming players performed well, although it was difficult to make kills with Terak and Maplassie asserting such dominance.
