Guillermo del Toro hoping to resurrect Insane franchise

Respected filmmaker Guillermo del Toro excited the gaming world last year when news surfaced that he was developing a new IP – in the form of a horror trilogy called Insane. The visionary behind Pan’s Labyrinth could be expected to produce something quite special, and THQ stepped on board as publisher.

However, after Homefront bombed, THQ was staring down a lot of red ink and had to make some major cuts, one of which was Insane. But now it looks like del Toro is on the hunt for a new partner in order to make his vision a reality.

Speaking at Comic-Con last Thursday, del Toro explained the situation.

“The game was cut months ago, and now we are talking to developers. When something doesn’t happen in one way, I just continue to pursue it in another way. I’m not giving up on Insane, it’s truly beautiful.”

This would indicate that despite the THQ partnership falling through, del Toro hung on to the IP rights and can go on to make the game with whomever he chooses. And according to del Toro, first choice is king of PC gaming Valve, who del Toro claims to be a huge fan of.

However, With Half Life: Episode 3 several years late, perhaps del Toro would be wise to shop around a bit.
