StarCraft II pro gamer suspended over lewd “joke”

15 October 2012

A member of pro StarCraft II team Evil Geniuses has been suspended for one month after saying he’d “abused of [sic] a child” during a live-streamed game on TwitchTV.

When asked to clarify what he’d meant, the 19-year old player Ilyes Satouri said simply “14 yo”, implying he’d had sex with a minor, which would technically be classed as statutory rape. He added that “I might only be interested in milfs and kids now”.

He later tried to pass it off as a “private joke, nothing serious”, but his sponsors – including Intel, Monster Energy, and Steel Series – apparently didn’t share in the ha-ho-hilarity, and have decided to suspend him without pay for the rest of October.

In an official statement, the team said that “French Zerg player Ilyes ‘Stephano’ Satouri has been suspended without pay for the remainder of October, following his recent inappropriate comments. He will be ineligible to participate in all online and offline competitions during the month of October, including the upcoming GD Invitational and DreamHack Bucharest tournaments for which he was previously signed up.”

Satouri has also issued his own inevitable apology, saying that his comments “were insensitive, inappropriate, way over the line, and are deserving of the serious ramifications I have received from my team. I accept responsibility for my mistake, and I will be more careful in the future.”

More careful to make the same sort of comments in private where nobody important can see them, I’m sure he meant to say.

It’s not the first time Satouri has gotten himself into trouble for his behaviour – he was arrested in June after going “full exorcist” at a DreamHack after-party in a Swedish nightclub. According to other party attendees, he vomited all over the coat check-in. What a classy guy.

This is ridiculous, it was sarcastic banter. Whoever finds his comments offensive needs to get a life. Tarryn, you just submitted one of MyGaming’s best articles IMO only to immediately contrast it with this crap.
