Call of Duty Elite for Black Ops II not available for PC, Wii U at launch

In the news that shocked the world today, Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty Elite service will not be available on PC or Wii U when Call of Duty: Black Ops II launches next month.

“We are currently evaluating options for Call of Duty Elite to support the PC and Nintendo’s Wii U game system,” the publisher told VideoGamer. “However, at launch Elite will not support PC or Wii U.”

The Elite subscription service made its debut on Xbox and PS3 alongside the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 release last November, but despite umming and ahhing about it, Activision never actually got around to adding a PC version.

“Unfortunately I can’t give you a date at this time – look, it bums me out to say it,” producer Noah Heller said back in March. “I get several e-mails a day. It’s a vocal, passionate audience. What we need to ensure is that when we ship something for them, it’s quality. We cannot make them wait this long and then deliver something that isn’t quality.”

So apparently, seven months later, it still isn’t “quality” enough.

Activision recently announced that, for everybody else, the Elite service will be free for Black Ops II, but all DLC will have to be purchased separately in future instead. So, technically free but without the stuff that actually made the Elite service worth buying.
