While Desmond has appeared in every Assassin’s Creed game, his backstory has always been somewhat mysterious, with Ubisoft only choosing to reveal a little of his character with each game.
However, creative director Alex Hutchinson believes that even players who aren’t Desmond fans will be converted in Assassin’s Creed 3, as the character’s previous story elements are tied together.
“The story of Assassin’s Creed, AC II, Brotherhood and Revelations was to build Desmond up,” Hutchinson said. “He’s this guy who’s a bit of a nobody when it starts out, and gets new abilities through reliving the lives of his ancestors.
“So we’ve built this guy up over the course of the games, and I really believe that we can pay that off, and in retrospect he’ll be terrific. I don’t think anyone really liked Luke Skywalker in [Star Wars] A New Hope, but by the end of his character arc, this journey that he goes through, makes him amazing.”
Ubisoft have added a new teaser trailer in the same vein, focusing this time on Desmond. PS3 and Xbox 360 players won’t have long to wait to uncover Desmond’s story, with a confirmed release date of October 30th. PC players on the other hand will have a hard time dodging spoilers until the later release date of November 23rd. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
