Call of Duty: Black Ops II introduces weapon Prestige levels

22 October 2012

One of Call of Duty’s biggest multiplayer hooks is the ongoing motivation to reach Prestige, which is hitting the player level cap – and next month, Black Ops II will be taking that to the next… level.

“Did you know that you can Prestige any gun two times?” wrote Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar on his Twitter account.

Weapon levelling was introduced in Modern Warfare 3, although the ability to “Prestige” your guns will be a new addition to the series.

No details were given about what exactly having a Prestige weapon will do for players. Guess we’ll have to wait to find that out.

Black Ops II’s level cap is 55, but unlike previous games, players won’t be reset when it’s reached, and instead all unlocked weapons and items will be kept. Players will then be awarded Prestige tokens that can be spent on additional Create-A-Class slots, among other things.

Black Ops II is set to launch worldwide on 13 November 2012.
