With old pumpkins and forgotten white sheets finally finding purpose during Halloween, game publishers are also punting creepy and frightening games coming our way.
With these games on offer, it’s safe to say that the fear and frights of the last day of October are going to last long long into 2013.
So check out 5 upcoming spooky games to look forward to:
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
A sequel is finally on its way for arguably one of the most frightening games of all time – Amnesia.
A Machine for Pigs will continue the quest for survival, although as an indirect follow-up to the original game.
Featuring a new cast of characters and time setting, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs should bring some new surprises to the fan-favourite gameplay style embedded from the original.
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is scheduled for a January 2013 release.
Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirrors of Fate
The Castlevania Lords of Shadow series makes its way to hand-helds with Mirrors of Fate.
This prequel brings the action, horror and exploration elements that have made the series a favourite to the 3DS.
Expect some creepy vampiric, werewolf and who-knows-what-else type of enemies to deal with.
Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirrors of Fate is scheduled for a 2013 release, and in the meantime, read MyGaming’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow review.
Sony and Supermassive Games are bringing some Cabin in the Woods-esque horror to the PS3 in 2013 with Until Dawn.
Until Dawn features all the elements you’d expect from your favourite teen horror movies: a script that’s funny, sexy and scary; a beautiful young cast; an isolated location; a devious killer; a dark secret and of course that all-important twist.
The game will make use of the Move Motion Controller; it becomes your torch guiding you through the dark as you attempt to survive Until Dawn.
Until Dawn is scheduled to release sometime in 2013.
Dementium II follows William Redmoor, a recent recipient of a radical brain operation and current inmate at the clandestine Bright Dawn Treatment Center for the criminally insane. His memories are fuzzy, but it appears that his wife and daughter were murdered, and all the evidence points towards William as the killer.
Playing as William, you begin to realise that the Doctor’s methods to fix your brain haven’t worked, as demons that were thought to be vanquished have appeared once again. Worse, it seems that the Doctor you let tickle your brain has some kind of evil scheme against you.
Dementium II was originally a DS game, launched in 2010, and delivered a frightening survival horror experience which created an instant cult-following.
Dementium II currently has no release date on PC.
Outlast is a new horror game coming from a recently-founded studio Red Barrels, which was put together by former Naughty Dog and Ubisoft devs.
Outlast stars journalist Miles Upshur, who breaks into a long-abandoned asylum, located in the isolated mountains of Colorado, to find out what’s going on inside the mysterious institution – and he’s going to regret it.
The game uses the Unreal 3 engine, and although there’s just a tech demo available, it’s looking to be a promising addition in the horror genre library.
Outlast is expected to release sometime in 2013.
