Mortal Kombat movie reboot gets $40M budget

The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie reboot has been confirmed by Warner Bros, along with a huge budget that should bring some fatalities to the big-screen.

“We’re preparing right now for the film with Kevin Tancharoen, [who] directed the digital series for us,” Warner executive Lance Sloan confirmed.

Tancharoen was given the job after he made a short Mortal Kombat web film, which garnered an immediate cult following. Tancharoen was then put onto direct a 10-episode web series for the company.

“We sent the piracy people after him, to take it down and put him in jail. And cut to a couple months later he was directing the digital series for us. And now he is at the helm of a forty, fifty million dollar feature film.”

There are no other details regarding the project, although Oren Uziel (who wrote the web series) has been slated for script duty.
