Rocksmith SA prices confirmed as game launches

So far, Ubisoft’s guitar-god training simulator Rocksmith has launched in North America, Europe and Japan. Today (9 November 2012), South Africa’s time has come as Rocksmith hits retail for Windows PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Megarom Interactive spokesperson (distributor of Ubisoft products in SA) Devon Stanton previously explained that Rocksmith should be considered a guitar learning tool presented in a gaming environment, and gamers should expect to be challenged to improve their skill as they progress.

Megarom hosted a launch event for Rocksmith at Stream Studios in Rivonia, Johannesburg, showing off the product and what it can do.

Partnering up with local music retailer Music Mate, Rocksmith was showcased by experienced guitarists, who demonstrated the fidelity of authenticity that the game offers.

Game and music journos also had their chance to try out the new game, with some hitting the right notes… and others not.

Rocksmith is available in two versions. The standard retail package includes the game and the required “Real Tone” cable – a USB to 1/4-inch jack converter that works with any electric guitar. This will hit the shelves with a recommended retail price (RRP) of R899.

The “Collector’s Edition” comes with the game, the Real Tone cable, and through a partnership with Gibson, will include an Epiphone Les Paul Junior electric guitar. This is pegged at an RRP of R2,499.

The bundle will only be available from BT Games, Kalahari, Takealot and Music Mate.

Music Mate will also be demoing the Rocksmith setup in a number of its branches, giving aspiring musicians a chance to try it out.

The version of Rocksmith shipped to SA will include the new Bass mode, offering players the opportunity to play bass guitar on all supported on-disc and downloadable songs. Players can also use any 6-string guitar to emulate a 4-string bass.

All songs can be played in two-player with one person playing the bass part and the other the guitar part. To this end, an additional True Tone cable can be purchased for an RRP of R349.
