Tablet gaming has been gaining strength over the last couple of years, and even Nintendo’s Scott Moffitt, Nintendo VP of sales and marketing has described the growth as “undeniable”.
At the BMO 2012 Digital Media Conference, Moffit said, “It’s undeniable the growth of tablets and their ability to play games.”
The Nintendo exec didn’t sound worried however, describing smartphones and tablets as Nintendo’s “allies”, due to the fact they help users easily access Nintendo websites and product info. Moffitt also mentioned that according to Nintendo’s data, the Wii U is going to offer a lot of competition.
“At the same time when we look at our data,” he said. “The DS didn’t have competition from tablets and smartphones, and yet we are outpacing the rate of sale for the DS. These are seemingly conflicting data points. Obviously we see a rise in new competitive products, but we are seeing better results in a tougher environment.”
