Activision’s largest gravy train has once again pulled neatly into the station, with Black Ops 2 looking to continue the annual Call of Duty tradition of smashing sales records.
Activision has announced that Black Ops 2 is the highest earning Call of Duty game in the first 24 hours, but interestingly have decided not to make the sales figures public.
Black Ops 2 was released on Tuesday, and has earned an estimated $500 million worldwide in its first day alone. This outdoes both Modern Warfare 3 at $400 million and Black Ops 1 at $360 million.
Speculation is that Black Ops 2 didn’t beat Modern Warfare 3’s 6.5 million day one sales, due to the fact that Activision have kept the sales figures a secret, something they didn’t do for the previous two Call of Duty games.
In Activision’s press release, Activision big cheese Bobby Kotick said that lifetime sales of the Call of Duty franchise now exceed box office totals for both the Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises. Pretty impressive, but to be fair, I’ve never paid R700 for a movie ticket.
