Whatever your opinion about Diablo III, there’s simply no denying Blizzard’s tremendous successes in the gaming industry, and accordingly enough, CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime has just been awarded the prestigious Ersnt & Young’s National Entrepreneur Of The Year 2012: Technology Award for his ongoing work at the company.
According to the official press stuff, Morhaime was recognised for his “commitment to a high standard of quality that has propelled Blizzard Entertainment to the pinnacle of the gaming industry and positioned the company as an internationally recognised leader in interactive entertainment.”
“To use his words, Morhaime has unleashed his ‘inner geek,’ creating a cultural phenomenon that is unparalleled in the gaming industry,” said Ernst & Young’s Bryan Pearce. “Morhaime brings a commitment to quality to his consumers and an inclusive work environment to his company, both of which have contributed to the immense success of Blizzard.”
Blizzard Entertainment opened in California in 1991 as Silicon & Synapse, founded by former UCLA classmates Mike Morhaime, Allan Adham, and Frank Peace, with a $15,000 investment cheque signed by Morhaime’s granny. Twenty years later, the company has expanded to Asia, Europe, and Latin America, and has an employee count of over 4000. Not bad.
Okay, now you can bitch about Diablo III.
