Wii U CPU is “horrible, slow”, says Metro: Last Light dev

21 November 2012

We already knew that Metro: Last Light would be released only on PC, Xbox, and PS3, but the reason the game (probably) won’t be coming to the Wii U is because the developers think Nintendo’s new console just isn’t up to par with current generation platforms.

“[The] Wii U has a horrible, slow CPU,” 4A Games chief technical officer Oles Shishkovtsov told NowGamer.

“We had an early look at it, we thought we could probably do it, but in terms of the impact we would make on the overall quality of the game – potentially to its detriment – we just figured it wasn’t worth pursuing at this time. It’s something we might return to. I really couldn’t make any promises, though,” added his colleague, Huw Beynon.

“We had an initial look at the Wii U, but given the size of the team and compared to where we were last time [developing for PC and Xbox 360], just developing for the PlayStation 3 is a significant addition.”

The Metro 2033 sequel was first shown at E3 last year, where – funnily enough – it was featured on Nintendo’s Wii U promo-reel. Awkward. The game was originally expected to launch this year, but has subsequently been delayed to 2013.
