Microsoft is researching its own augmented reality glasses technology, according to a patent filed by the company.

The patent, “Event Augmentation with Real-Time Information”, shows specially designed eyewear that can overlay real-time data and display visual cues on real-world objects.

The patent details explain that the glasses can be used in practical applications, such as providing supplemental information when viewing a live event, such as a sports match.

Users will be able to retrieve information on people, objects and happenings, with the info tagged and displayed on the side of the user’s view.

Microsoft’s patent appears along the lines of Google Glass, which is Google’s attempt at AR implementation in eyewear.
