UK studio Eurocom, developer of Activision’s 007 Legends, has just laid off a ton of staff in a massive staff redundancy cutback.
Studio director Hugh Binns has confirmed that only fifty staff would be left at the company.
“Eurocom are undertaking a restructuring which I regret to say has meant we’ve made the majority of our workforce redundant today,” his statement read.
“This includes many very experienced, talented and highly skilled employees, and we’d like to thank them all for your hard work and efforts.”
According to Binns, the reason for the cutbacks is the “steep decline in demand for console games”, which resulted in the studio missing out on a lot of potential deals with publishers.
“Eurocom has retained a core staff of just under 50 employees and will be focusing mainly on mobile opportunities moving forward,” he added.
The studio has been going since 1988, and until recently employed hundreds of staff. The developer has worked on some big franchises such as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead Space and Duke Nukem.
