Game Boy added to US National Toy Hall of Fame

Nintendo’s iconic Game Boy handheld console has been admitted to the US National Toy Hall of Fame. Alongside the Game Boy, one of the most fundamental toys ever created – the ball – was also added to the hall of fame.

The Game Boy was released in 1989, and transformed the gaming industry by popularizing portable gaming.

The Toy Hall of Fame is housed at The Rochester,  the USA’s national museum which is located in New York. The museum has been adding toys to its hall of fame since 1998, and has 44 items, including the Atari 2600, the Big Wheel tricycle, the stick and checkers.
