John McAfee allegedly captured

John McAfee, the anti-virus software guru / professional weirdo / fugitive wanted for the murder of his neighbour in Belize may or may not have been arrested by police in Mexico, according to conflicting reports on his own blog and from the local police forces.

Last month, McAfee launched a blog about his ongoing – and increasingly bizarre – drama with Belizean authorities, after he eluded capture by burying himself in his own garden. He later claimed that the murder investigation was part some sort of elaborate conspiracy to remove him from the country, or possibly kill him. Or something.

The latest post on his blog, dated yesterday, says that an anonymous caller had contacted McAfee’s spokespeople with news that McAfee had been apprehended attempting to cross the Mexican border on Friday night. This has not been confirmed one way or the other, although McAfee has not been in contact with his team since then.

Cops in Belize, the mayor of San Pedro, and the country’s own Minister of National Security have denied everything, however, telling news sources that none of it is true. But if McAfee’s claims that he’s being set up by the police are real, that’s probably exactly what they would say, isn’t it?

Insiders say that, should McAfee been arrested, his trial is expected to last 30 days. That was an obligatory joke.
