Top games in SA

Market research company Gfk has released its October 2012 sales stats for the SA physical retail gaming market, detailing the top five selling games across various platforms.

The Sims 3 stubbornly clings to its number 1 spot on the PC chart, refusing to be budged by even the biggest AAA releases. Despite lacklustre reviews, Medal of Honor Warfighter comes in second on PC, followed by another mainstay of gaming, FIFA.

The supernaturally good Dishonored seems to have hit home with PC gamers for its October 2012 launch, but it doesn’t manage to feature on the console charts. Borderlands 2 also remains strong on PC, having now dropped from the console charts.

On the leading consoles, it’s not surprising to see FIFA 13 dominating. New releases such as Assassin’s Creed 3, Resident Evil 6, and Forza Horizon also work their way into the top spots.

It is interesting to note that a much older game, Ninja Blade, made its way into the Xbox 360 top 5 for October 2012. Gfk explained that this is because the game was being bundled for sales specials.
