Google’s most popular searches in SA in 2012

It seems somewhat appropriate that Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” just started on my iTunes playlist, because apparently Google’s most searched “what is” in South Africa this year was “what is love?”. You know, because it’s mostly about flags and haircuts and tying people up in the kitchen and stuff. I don’t know, maybe it’s a bit different for everybody.

Anyway, Google has published its annual Zeitgeist report on what’s hot on the internet, and revealed our not-so secret late night research topics like “how to kiss”. Yes, that’s the number one most searched “How to” in South Africa, followed by “how to draw”, “how to love”, “how to study”, “how to meditate”, and “how to hack”. Kids today are pretty busy, but they clearly have their priorities in order.

Onto technology, and locals were mostly interested in things like “what is internet”, “what is wifi” and “what is url”, which sort of makes you wonder how they even managed to turn the damn thing on in the first place.

Oddly enough, there’s no gaming category, although “Diablo 3” made it to number 8 on the top general searches list, also serving as a gentle reminder to Jeremy to always include both the regular number and Roman numerals in our tags library. See, there’s a method to this madness, people.
