Yesterday’s story about Mass Effect 4 dropping between sometime between 2014 and 2015 was, in fact, a total lie. While we decide what punishment will best befit Jeremy’s crimes for propagating this false information (I’m leaning towards an airlock expulsion from MyGaming’s orbital space station, but we’re open to suggestions because MyGaming doesn’t actually have one of those), EA has confirmed that nobody there or over at BioWare said anything about any release dates whatsoever.
News originally broke out of GamerSyndrome, who published an interview with Mass Effect 3 producer Mike Gamble, who said that development had started on the sequel a month ago already, and that the game was expected to launch in late 2014 or 2015. Except that Mike Gamble never actually had an interview with GamerSyndrome.
An EA rep told G4TV that “At no time did EA or BioWare provide any answers to questions from Gamer Syndrome.”
GamerSyndrome has since retracted the entire article, claiming that “the information provided previously by the author of this post was deemed to be obtained from an inaccurate source and NOT an official Bioware or EA interview response”. Major embarrassments.
So, basically, Mass Effect 4 will be out when it’s out, whenever that is.
