Wargaming, net’s World of Tanks has been quietly raking in millions of players over the course of 2012 – this often overlooked game has a staggering 45 million registered players and has set the record for simultaneous users – 600,000 on a Russian server.
“Wargaming has demonstrated sustainable growth and solid performance during 2012, mainly due to the success of our headliner – World of Tanks,” said Andrei Yarantsau, VP of Global Operations.
“The tremendous success of World of Tanks has showcased that the company has developed a strong and reliable technological platform with an incredible amount of remaining potential. The result is that we’ll keep being able to provide top-notch online services and regular high quality content and updates.”
Wargaming’s next title, the slightly unoriginally-titled World of Warplanes is currently in closed beta while the developer also works on World of Warships. The eventual goal is to have all three games linked under a single platform with a common economic system.
Wargaming is no small indie – it boasts over 1300 staff across 11 offices in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia – it’s also just signed with KongZhong Corporation for expansion into China.
The tank-based MMO has had a very healthy 2012, and you can bet it’ll continue strong into 2013.
