Market research company Gfk has released its November 2012 sales chart for the SA physical retail gaming market, detailing the top five selling games across various platforms.
As the Wii U launched in November 2012, we now also have the sales chart for that platform. Gfk has also kindly provided us with the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS charts for the first time.
As one might expect with the launch of a new Nintendo console, Mario is topping the chart with his New Super Mario Bros Wii U adventure. The Nintendo Land and Wii U console bundle came in second, indicating a strong uptake of the Wii U 8GB console (which came with the game bundled). Mario also dominated his home turf of the Nintendo 3DS .
Despite an onslaught on new and exciting releases on PC – running joke, The Sims 3, is still hanging in the top 5. Black Ops 2 unsurprisingly takes the number 1 spot on PC, with big releases Far Cry 3, Assassin’s Creed 3, and Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2012) bolstering the top 5.
Black Ops 2 also dominated the console charts, hitting number 1 on both Xbox 360 and PS3. A range of big name holiday releases also made their way into the console charts, managing to knock long-time favourite Gran Turismo 5 from its stable position on the PS3 top 5.
PS Vita owners must be hungry for any new titles hitting the neglected platform, and so new releases dominate its chart. The PS Vita bundled with FIFA 13 also proved popular, presumably making for a snazzy Christmas gift.
