Developer Valve revealed today that recently released zombie shooter sequel Left 4 Dead 2 has sold “over 2 million retail copies” since it hit shelves last week.
Although it’s not the 5 million retail copies of Modern Warfare 2 that Activision shifted in the first week of its release, it still remains one of the fastest selling games of 2009. In addition the sequel was not launched on the PS3, arguably cutting down potential sales units.
Nonetheless Valve added that “[Left 4 Dead 2] appears to be on target to become one of the top selling Xbox [360] and PC titles for the month of November”. These number do not include digital downloads of the game.
The developer also added that “sales to date are more than double the original [Left 4 Dead]” and that the game has “already been played by over 1 million players on Xbox Live,” with reports that “news regarding L4D2 DLC 1 is coming very soon.”
