Australia’s Office of Film and Literature Classification is once again in the news, this time for refusing to classify Rebellion’s Aliens vs. Predator within the country. This essentially means that the game will not be released down under.
Several weeks ago the Board made headlines for refusing to classify Valve’s zombie FPS sequel Left 4 Dead 2 on the grounds that it was too violent, this sparked outcry from fans and publishers alike who complained that the ruling was draconian and outdated. As a result Left 4 Dead 2 was released in Australia with blood and gore removed from the game.
In Alien vs. Predator’s case “various types of violence” led to the Board’s refusal to classify the game. The feature in which the Alien collects trophies by ripping off human heads was specifically targeted.
Publishers Sega have revealed that “”we will continue to investigate all options available to us, including the possibility of appeal.”
In addition the game will reportedly not be released in Germany due to ban related concerns.
