Dead Space 3 PC port defended

Dead Space 3 news

Visceral Games executive producer Steve Papoutis has defended the PC version of Dead Space 3, after it was being referred to as a pure console port.

The uproar comes after it was announced that the PC version of Dead Space 3 will feature certain graphics options, but will lack Direct X 11 support and enhanced textures.

Papoutis has said that the claims have “discredited for the amount of effort” that goes into developing PC versions.

“It’s confusing to me that this question even comes up,” Papoutsis said. “It’s by no means any less important to us; it gets a lot of attention. The PC is a very different platform. As developers, you want to deliver an experience that’s as similar as possible on different platforms.”

Papoutis explained that the studio wants the core feeling of Dead Space 3 to remain the same across all platforms, but also states that the PC control scheme alone gives somewhat of a unique experience.

“The fact that we’re allowing you to control the game with a mouse and keyboard immediately makes the game feel different,” Papoutsis said. “Working with the community, we found some people wanted to map the controls a little differently because of disabilities and we supported that [in Dead Space 2].”
