Ambient Studios, an independent video game developer based in the UK, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their first title – Death Inc. The studio has set a very lofty target of £300,000 to be reached by 6 March 2013.

Death Inc. is described by the studio as “a strategy game mixed with Katamari and a dash of the Pied Piper. This is a game about a jobbing reaper spreading the Bubonic plague in medieval England. It’s about infecting as many peasants, serfs, wenches and even noblemen as you can. And of course, it’s about leading your pestilential horde to defeat the forces of Good.”

The development team was founded by ex-Media Molecule staff (LittleBigPlanet), and has since been bolstered to 11 with developers from Lionhead (Fable), and Criterion (Burnout, Need For Speed).

Death Inc. will initially be launching on PC and Mac, with a tablet PC version in the works. However, the project is far from complete, and Ambient Studios is turning to the popular Kickstarter platform to raise funds to complete development. The studio has stated that the Kickstarter project will go live on 4 February 2013.

Death is big business. The Ministry Of Mortality is the infernal agency tasked with finding the stiffs, shuffling off their mortal coils and setting them on their way to a better (or worse) afterlife. A vast, ancient corporation that can’t cope with demand, the Ministry Of Mortality is stretched to breaking point.

Plenty of room for the little guy, wouldn’t you say?

And that’s where you come in. Grim T. Livingstone: Reaper, entrepreneur, malcontent and founder of Death, Inc, the afterlife’s premier mortality outsourcing agency.
