The Playstation 4 is expected to be revealed on 20 February, with a late-2013 to early-2014 release date, according Edge.
Development sources have claimed that Sony’s next generation console will launch before the end of 2013 in Japan, with a European launch following shortly after, in early 2014.
The later European release is said to be attributed to the complexities involved in European distribution.
Alongside the launch of the new console, sources claim that Sony will also release a new and improved iteration of its Playstation Eye peripheral, which will be compatible with current PS Move controllers.
Sony has already been hyping up a special event, which is dubbed “see the future”, and scheduled to take place on 20 February. The event is widely speculated to be for the reveal of the Playstation 4.
