The MyGaming Sunday Evening Cup Series, powered by PolarfluKe, got off to a roaring start this weekend. More teams are welcome to enter, as the structure of the tournament means everyone has a chance in the opening weeks to make it into the final round and take a shot at the prize pot of R2,000.

Sunday Evening Cup Series kicked off this week with 3 of the “big 4” teams participating. The story of the day, however, follows a team of old dogs from way back when showing off some new tricks. Matt’s Fun Buddies wowed everyone when they beat Premier League team Veneration eSports in the first round. Call it luck or bad play on the part of VnR, these guys were here to stay.
The carnage didn’t stop there though. In the second round of the winner’s bracket (semi-final) they met season favourites ROCC (formerly ASF) and managed to pull off great team fights holding ROCC’s early game lead and finally besting them to take the match.
Meanwhile, in a parallel DotA 2 universe, a game which many of us had been waiting so anxiously for, went down between Energy eSports and Immersion`BASHER. The game was action packed from the get go with some cheesy tricks pulled off once again by Energy granting them a lead and momentum which they rode right till the end.
The final was set, new comers MfB were to meet ENergy eSports who had gone unbeaten in South African leagues thus far.
The final kicked off as nobody would have imagined. MfB showed early game dominance in the trilane vs. trilane and managed to best Energy in the early lane phase. MfB were unable to grasp their lead this time around and once Energy had regrouped, regained confidence and pulled their socks up; they showed MfB just why they’re unbeaten. Through unrivalled teamwork and perfect choice of engagements Energy were able to declare a substantial lead and the victory finishing off the first week of season on top.
