GOG.com has announced that System Shock 2 has hit its DRM-free digital distribution service, and is compatible with Windows 7, 8, Vista, and XP for US$9.99.
System Shock and System Shock 2 are highly regarded as cult classic PC games, both having a huge impact on the action-RPG genre of gaming. System Shock 2 was designed by Ken Levine of BioShock fame, and co-developed by Irrational Games and series progenitor Looking Glass Studios.
BioShock and Deus Ex (2000), both highly regarded titles in their own right, are considered spiritual successors to the System Shock series.
System Shock 2 maintains a 92% rating on Metacritic. The game features a mixture of fast-paced action and story-driven gameplay, with FPS and action-RPG mechanics.
Those worried that the game may be looking a bit too dated in today’s gaming age can check out a couple of mods that overhaul the textures of the original.
