The Witness heading to PS4

21 February 2013

Indie developer Thekla Inc has announced an upcoming Playstation 4 game, The Witness.

The Witness takes place on a mysterious island, and requires players to explore the open-world landscape and solve puzzles.

The open-world layout will have a new spin on the puzzle mechanics of the game, as the player can choose to leave the puzzle and do other objectives, and then return later.

“We are not just trying to make hard puzzles,” said the developer. “Some puzzles in The Witness are hard, but some are easy. Even the easy puzzles are interesting, because every puzzle has a little bit of communication wrapped inside it.”

The island itself is also not designed to be as big as possible, like some other open-world games, but is instead a compact island which takes just over a minute to run right across.

That said, the developer promises 25 hours of unique puzzle gameplay with no repetition.

There is no current release date for The Witness, but it is expected to arrive on the PS4 within the console’s launch window.
