PS4 will not block used games

21 February 2013

Following the big reveal of the Playstation 4, Sony has confirmed that the new console will not block the playability of used games, despite previous rumours suggesting it would.

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida was asked about whether the upcoming console would not be able to play used games.

“[Gamers] purchase in physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that’s my expectation,” said Yoshida.

“So, used games can play on PS4,” Yoshida added.

A Sony source also said that the used-game-blocking patent that was discovered has nothing to do with the Playstation 4.
