Game development studio TimeGate, known for Section 8, F.E.A.R. Files, and most recently their involvement in Aliens: Colonial Marines, has been hit with lay-offs.
“Today, we had to make the difficult decision to let go of some great game developers,” said TimeGate president Adel Chaveleh. “This is never easy, and we’re doing all we can to assist those developers affected.”
TimeGate jumped into the mainstream headlines following on from the snafu that was the release and subsequent reception of Aliens: Colonial Marines. TimeGate was revealed to have been involved with the development of the game, in which the quality of the unplayable pre-release demo ended up being very different from the final game.
The layoffs have said to have affected around 25 people and were connected to a publishing deal falling through.
Chaveleh also said that due to the imminent release of new consoles, the studio’s focus is to plan and develop for new systems.
“TimeGate is preparing, as is the entire industry, for the transition to next-generation consoles and new business models. As part of this reinvention, all projects and strategic initiatives continue to move forward at the studio,” said the studio president.
