Crytek chasing Darksiders IP

Following THQ’s bankruptcy, Crytek has set its sights on the Darksiders IP and will bid on the rights when THQ’s next auction takes place in April.

“Going to bid on Darksiders IP,” said Crytek USA CEO David Adams. “Put 7 years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators.”

Adams was referring to the fact that Crytek has provided a new studio for the former members of Vigil Games, who were behind the Darksiders games.

The new studio is known as Crytek USA Corp, and with Crytek now holding the Darksiders talent, it makes sense to go after the IP.

Ryan Stefanelli, another Vigil co-founder and now Crytek USA employee, also confirmed the bidding ambitions.

“When the Darksiders IP goes up for auction, Crytek will be bidding for it,” Stefanelli said. “Not much more to say since the rest is left up to courts and legal shenanigans, but we’re all excited at the prospect.”

Before the closure of THQ, Crytek was also working on a sequel to Homefront, but the studio has now also acquired the licence to the Red Dawn-inspired FPS.
