SA political cartoonist Zapiro’s digital publishing company has had a gaming project up its sleeve for quite some time, and has revealed Zafari through South Africa’s StartMe crowdfunding platform.
The game is a mobile game that allows players to explore a number of locations that South Africans would be familiar with. Players can manipulate and change the characters and scenes in the game to initiate mini-games, or basically just watch hilarious things ensue.
The game features the stylistic elements and caricatures that Zapiro has become well-known for, and continues the tongue-in-cheek look at SA’s politics and cultural happenings.
“Your powers range from benevolent powers like naming streets after them or getting them out of danger, to malevolent powers like lashing them with hail and lightning,” explains the StartMe page. “Or you could just get them to throw objects at each other and have slap-fights for bonus points.”
The Zafari team is looking for R250,000 to help design, develop, produce and market the game.
