A 14-year old has admitted to cutting the throat of a 13-year old friend, following a dispute over Gears of War 3.
The two boys met each other online through playing Gears of War 3 together, however, after they met in person, the friendship broke down to “name-calling via the messaging system used in the game.”
The boys then met up once again, with the 14-year old, who is also a father, slashing the throat of his former friend.
The victim required staples and surgery, and is traumatised following the attack.
Of course, the game will be blamed for the incident, as the prosecuting officer told the court that “violent video games played online by the accused may have been a factor in his conduct”.
“These games are rated 18 and shouldn’t be played by children of this young age – but online gaming may be outside their parents’ knowledge,” the chairman of the Scottish Police Federation said. “We need to look again at what we can do to stop this.”
The accused, now 16-years old, is being trialled, with a possible sentence uncertain.
