A trademark has been filed by Konami which could hint at a new Contra game.

The new trademark, “Contra Run and Gun”, was filed to the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) on 4 June 2013.

Not much regarding Contra has been in the news lately, with the most recent reference being teased at the end of Konami’s pre-E3 2011 conference, as the publisher put on the trademark Contra logo, with the words: “they’re coming”.

E3 could be the ideal moment to throw out a surprise announcement regarding a new Contra game, which would undoubtedly please veteran gamers craving a bit of side-scrolling chaos.
