Square Enix drops two bombs: Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3

Speaking during Sony’s conference at E3 2013, Square Enix lifted the lid on a few of its game plans for the next generation, including a surprise twist for Final Fantasy, and a wink-wink nudge-nudge to fans of spiky-haired teens with a Disney fetish.

Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix showed off a fancy new trailer for the much-delayed Final Fantasy versus XIII, which many believed would either wither away and die as vapourware or become something else entirely.

As it turned out, it’s the latter. Though not as extreme.

Final Fantasy versus XIII is now Final Fantasy XV, and it’s coming to PS4.

The new trailer shown at E3 2013 finally shows off the gameplay that gamers have been gagging for – and boy, does it deliver. Along with gameplay, the trailer also hints at the game’s plot points and visual spectacles.

There was no mention of exclusivity, but it was mentioned in the past that when the game was still called Final Fantasy versus XIII, it was a PlayStation exclusive.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Square Enix also dropped another bombshell in revealing that the official threequel to the Disney/Final Fantasy mash-up, Kingdom Hearts, is in development for PS4.

While info was scarce and didn’t go beyond announcing that the game was in development, the trailer at the conference did show off some brief gameplay, depicting main-line protagonist, Sora, in shiny next-gen glory.

The announcement also served as a nice opportunity to punt Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD remix, which should provide gamers with the chance to catch up with the series.

Square Enix also announced that its MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV would also be heading to PS4, and promised more info about these games and more during the week as the conference opens up.
