SA internet service provider Mweb has dealt some numbers on its popular servers and games being played by South African gamers.

Mweb has over 250 game servers which count for more than 60 different games being played online. While many of the older titles don’t allow for stat-tracking, the big games do offer the ability to monitor the server usage at a player level.

“We have averaged over 60,000 online gamers a month on the MWEB network this year between 1 January and 30 April 2013,” said Desmond Kurz, Online Gaming Manager at MWEB.

With regards to the popular titles being played on Mweb servers, Kurz revealed that Dota 2 is among the games that pulls the biggest player base.

“Since the launch of the Dota2 servers in March 2013, we have seen over 70,000 unique South African IP addresses connect to the Dota 2 servers, with the majority of those  coming from gamers on an MWEB connection.”

Kurz also added that some of the older games, like Team Fortress 2, also remain popular. Team Fortress 2 has over 12,000 unique users connecting to the MWEB GameZone servers since Jan 2013.
