Update
Multiple reports are coming in from Xbox Live South Africa users that Defense Grid: The Awakening the game is not available to our region. The game is not even listed on the South African marketplace, which typically indicates that it has not been approved by the FPB, South Africa’s game content rating authority.
With Microsoft seemingly offering older titles through its Games with Gold programme, it remains to be seen how many titles that are released through the programme will actually become available to SA Live subscribers.
Original story
The next free game for July’s Xbox Live Gold Games with Gold programme is Defense Grid: The Awakening.
Defense Grid: The Awakening is a tower defence strategy game that’s easy to pick up, and get players unfamiliar with the genre involved. Players need to strategically place towers on the map to prevent alien enemies from stealing power cores.
The game is usually priced at 800 Microsoft Points, but is free for Xbox Live Gold members.
Microsoft recently detailed its Games with Gold initiative, explaining that Xbox Live Gold members will receive a new free downloadable title on the 1st and 16th of every month.
“Each specially selected, fan-favourite game will be available to download only for a limited time, so grab them before they’re gone and keep them no matter what,” noted Microsoft.
On the other side of the console network, PS Plus subscribers can currently get XCOM: Enemy Unknown, LittleBigPlanet Karting and the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection for “free” (until 3 July 2013).
On 3 July 2013, Battlefield 3, Payday: The Heist, Saints Row: The Third, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus and Unit 13 will enter the store and be available to PS Plus Members.
